#132 有松・鳴海絞り Arimatsu-Narumi Shibori

100種ほどもあると伝えられる有松・鳴海絞り。

数ある技法の中でも最もシンプルな柄「帽子絞り」は、柄になる部分を白く残す絞り方で、その状態が帽子をかぶったように見えるところからこの名前がつきました。 「平縫い絞り」は、針と糸で絞る部分を縫いつけ、絞り上げていきます。染め上がった生地に出来る水玉ひとつずつが微妙に違っているのも、大量生産にはない手仕事の魅力です。

It is said that there are as many as a hundred types of Arimatsu-Narumi Shibori. The most simple pattern of the many techniques, Boshi-shibori, ties together areas that will remain white to create the pattern. This tying technique looks as though hats (boshi) are placed on the material, thus its name. "Hiranui-shibori" ties together areas by sewing them with needles and thread. Each dot on the dyed cloth is slightly different, giving it a charm as a handcrafted item that mass-produced items do not have.
